Good things come to those who wait

Did you know?
• The Welsh Bible, 21 years late
• Menai Bridge, 5 years late
• Airbus A380 superjumbo, 48 months late
• Wembley Stadium, 24 months late
• Llanelli’s Millennium coastal park, 18 months late
• Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre, 14 months late
• ……The Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales….only 2 months late

The Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales, funded by the Arts Council of Wales, will be officially launched on 31 January 2008 and not 14 November 2007 as previously announced. Unforeseen problems in the crucial last stages of production have resulted in a short delay before final publication.

Peter Finch, Chief Executive of Academi, said, “While the delay is unfortunate and disappointing for all involved in the project we hope people will understand that the publication of such an important book as this should not be undertaken lightly. After a decade’s worth of in-depth research, writing and editing, it is imperative that sufficient time is taken to ensure that the two volumes are as accurate as possible and achieve the highest editorial standards; this is after all a permanent record for generations to come.

“We would like to sincerely apologize to all those who have ordered copies in advance, or who were planning to give the Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales as a Christmas gift. This is a publication well worth waiting for and at least everyone who orders a copy has something to look forward to during the long dark days of January.”
